CHOICE— What Does EXCELLENCE Look Like In Your Life?

Modification and Update of Tom Peter’s In Search of Excellence

EXCELLENCE is not an “aspiration.” Or “Purpose statement”

EXCELLENCE is … THE NEXT 5 OR 10  MINUTES

 EXCELLENCE is your next conversation.

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is your next productive presentation and meeting.

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is shutting up and listening—really listening.

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is your next customer contact.

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is saying “Thank you” for something “small.”

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is the next time you shoulder responsibility and give the credit away.

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is waaay over-reacting to a screw-up or other people’s inappropriate behavior

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is the donuts or flowers you brought to work today.

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is lending a hand to someone  who’s fallen behind schedule.

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is  learning  the way folks in finance or HR] think.and feel

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is waaay “over”-preparing  for a 10-minute presentation.

Or not.

EXCELLENCE is turning “insignificant” tasks into one-step at time significant changes and models of …

EXCELLENCE.

Or not.

SELF-COACHING CHALLENGE– How do you SHOW EXCELLENCE IN YOUR DAILY LIFE?

Daily quote and Reflections: Work and Play tied to Personal Vision

Quote: “The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.” Zen Buddhist

Reflection: The key idea in this quote for me is the notion of having a vision of excellence that guides your daily activities. Once you create and own a personal vision then your purpose and strategies for fulfillment fall into alignment. As Tom Peters, the management and leadership consultant once said a leader  ” allows people to become more than they’ve ever dreamed of being”.Tom Peters on Excellence

Action Assignment: What is your personal vision of excellence?

Daily Quote and Reflection– What we face today looks like yesterday’s problems.

    Daily Quote and Reflection:
“If we accept the common usage of words, nothing can be more readily disproved than the old saw, ‘You can’t keep a good man down.’ Most human societies of which we have any historical record have been beautifully organized to keep good men and women down.” John Gardner from book entitled

Excellence
or

“What we have before us are some breathtaking opportunities disguised as insoluble problems.” John Gardner 1965 Speech.
Reflection: It is amazing how both of these ideas still hold true for us today. Women are still be discriminated against by doing the same jobs as men in many industries and receiving less pay. This irreprehensible.  What does Excellence mean to you? Let’s ponder together. Send me your ideas and I will post them.
